Between the South Florida Sun-Sentinel "misquote", the appearance on Drudge and across Fox News, and the creation of an organization similar to the one behind the swift boat veterans, as detailed on FDL ( http://www.firedoglake.com/2006/06/28/di d-duncan-hunter-sell-out-jack-murtha/ ), can there be any doubt?
Karl Rove and company are in full-bore character destruction mode against yet another Veteran.
However, this time, the Republicans are going after everyone. They are trying to convince America that jumping over to the Dems will make the country worse than it is now, that Dems are out of touch, clueless, and, still weak on national security.
They aren't trying to make this campaign about Iraq, corruption, or terrorism, they are trying to neutralize these issues, trying to take away our advantages. Then they want to play to the base.
Remember, Karl goes for your strength, and the Dems only strength right now is that we aren't Republicans.
The Dems haven't communicated well. They haven't been able to agree on a united front on anything. So, their strength is the collapse of the oppostion. So, Karl uses that. Paints us as being just as bad as them. Then he hopes his base will bail them out.
